Coldplay - Viva La Vida

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
Once you know there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries Wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

Hear Jerusalem bells are ringings
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh

I absolutely love this song. I think it kind of started with one of Collin's lessons. lol. The one about France's Kings. On Napoleon, King Louis XVI and King Louis XV. He printed these huge stacks of info on them from wiki. Waste of paper,I have to agree, but the information there are seriously very interesting. Well, maybe only for one like me who likes to read this kind of history stuff. lol. But anyway this song really suits these few people. A song about a king who used to enjoy a luxurious life. The impression the song gave me was that the people were ungrateful. When the king gained more territories, they supported him. But the minute when the country faces destruction/ruin,they turn their backs upon him. In the end,the king ends up a commoner/exiled. In short,it is a song about a fallen king.

It's kind of hard to imagine that these things actually happened, especially in our modern century. But once the evidence is in front of you,it is impossible to deny anymore. It is not pity/sympathy that I feel for these fallen kings, but a mixture of empathy and awe. I admire their courage and I feel sad at their downfall. Perhaps some of the kings deserved this kind of fate, but definitely not all of them.

Well,just enjoy this song :)
