I doubt many people say this, but I really enjoy my work. One of the reason why I am not switching jobs during this long break is because I think I have more opportunities by staying longer here than starting anew somewhere else. By working here longer, my bosses would also trust me more and entrust more important tasks to me. Compared to an entirely new company and fresh set of colleagues, I think I would have a higher chance to do more important stuff that I can write in my testimonial.

Today was a rather "learning day" for me. During my lunch break, I went to a workshop conducted by Thomson Reuters which taught us how to use their Reuters system. It was pretty educational, I guess, though I definitely won't say it was interesting. I zoned out a few times. lol. Still, it's one more new system which I have learnt during my stay here, on top of Bloomberg and everything else :)

The workshop dragged for so long that I only ended up with a 10 min break for lunch -.- I practically inhaled my food. Gosh, it was !!! I was so afriad of getting back late. AFter all, I didn't want to leave a bad impression on my bosses. I ended up going back about 2 or 4 minutes late, which phew, I don't think was too bad. lol.

Shortly after, I went to meet a couple of other colleagues (whom I have never met before...talk about throwing different people together) and we cabbed down to Fairmont Hotel. On the company's tab of course. Heh.

Honestly, I didn't have much to do there. All I did was just arrange, arrange and re-arrange the 14 trophies from our department. LOL. Then I went to sit in some final briefing for the organise to go through the programme for the evening again. It was pretty interesting to note how they broke down everything and really went through all the details, right down to the awkward silences that would fill the gaps. lol. The emcee was pretty funny. Haha. I wonder how they got one of the actors from Ah Boys to act as an emcee. Interesting. Haha.

After awhile, I zoned out again and went to sit alone ast some table. Sigh. So out of place. Oh well. I just sat there and soaked in the atmosphere, imagining how it'd be like in the future when I attend such functions. Oh, did I mention that this is my first ever company function? Haha. Pretty awesome, huh.

Then my bosses finally came. Though they talked mostly about work, I realised I could actually learn a lot from their conversations. Like how office politics work. lol. Quote from one of them "When they are told to work, person A will say okay okay and end up doing nothing. Person B is just as bad...say okay but don't know whether he will really do the work or not." LOL. My poor boss is also quite in a bad position. Her two bosses don't seem to communicate so when one asks her to do this and another asks her to do something else, she has to appease both sides and try to find some middle ground for them. Urgh. I would hate being in her position.

Unfortunately, I HAVE been in that kind of situation before, when 2 people ask me to do the something different about the same issue and I have no idea who to listen to. Then I just sit there and wonder why the heck can't they just talk to each other and when they finally figure out what they want, they just tell me and I'll do it?! Aiyoo. Seriously. Damn annoying, really. Especially when I don't know the system as well as these 2 other people. So when they tell me something which I don't know what to do about, I'll be like...HUH? lol. In the end, the 2 people I worked with just gave up and talked to eaach other. Hahaha.

Anyway, back to my event tonight. Over the past few weeks, I have helped to create some slides and did some admin stuff for my department about this function so I have some idea what would happen. But I didn't expect it to be a "dress up as your favourite movie character" event. lol. Naturally, no one did la. It was a work day afterall and who would wear a costume to work?? Right and I asked my boss what time I should say I ended work tonight, and she gave me the "huhh..." expression. Haha. And she was so kind as to ask me to write  that I did an extra hour of OT, when I actually did nothing for like 5 hours and even had free dinner. lol. See, life is so good here. I get to attend functions and still get paid XP

The dinner was pretty nice. Desserts only so-so. Their lamb and glass noodle and salmon were among the best dishes ba. Everything else is...normal or below. Hahaha. Still, I ate quite a lot. I kept feeling that I have to eat more to make up for my dad's absence. He would have eaten so much more. Hahaha. And I got to finally ask the quesiton I have always wanted to ask my male boss!! It was pretty rude, but at that time there were only 2 of us, so I just went " Hey, are you married? LOL. I have been wondering since CNY when he gave me an ang pow and I don't see him wearing a wedding ring. He was like "No." Ooops XPP Well, at least I finally had my curiosity squelched.

Then we just watched the award presentations and yay after our departments' trophies were finally given out, the 4 of us just took our bags and went home. LOL. WE were about 3/4 through the event? Haha. Oh well. Lots of other people were doing that too anyway.

OHH WAIT did I mention that there was this moment when this big big boss came over? Hs had his glass of orange juice with him and he just strode over and clinked glasses with my 3 bosses....and me. AWKWARD. I wasn't expecting it so I was like still eating then when he held his glass up in my direction, I was like OOPS, and used my left hand to clink my drink against his (my right hand still held my spoon). LOL. THen my 3 bosses were sitting there laughing. Hahaha. It was pretty funny especially when the 2 of us have never spoken to each other before. I mean he definitely recognises me, but probably don't know my name at all. lol. He probably did it out of courtesy only anyway. I mean, it's weird to clink with everyone but not me on the basis that he doenn't know me,right? Maybe that's a legitimate reason, but oh well. TEEHEE.

All in all, I think it was  pretty good opportunity for me to go. I did have a feel for how such events are like and yep, it'd deifnitely set a standard for the many more that would come in the future. Haha. At some point in our dinner, my bosses were talking about some dinner they were making together and one of them asked me "Eh, you wanna come?" LOL. I doubt she was serious la. It'd be too awkward for me to be there anyway. I just gave her the HUH look and she just laughed. Still, it was pretty nice to know that I have a good relationship with my bosses.

I was texting Andrea throughout the event and she was like "Ehh, you very privileged eh! Congrats, you've become their favourite intern!" Hahaha. I doubt that, but  at least my relationship with my bosses isn't frayed and I can hope for a good testimonial at the end of the day :D
